The characteristics of Lumineers® veneers
The veneers cover the visible parts of the teeth, straighten them and lengthen them; correct imperfections, conceal stains and discolouration; and naturally resist stains.
The Lumineers® veneers require little preparation and the removal of a tiny amount of enamel from the surface of the tooth. Just like porcelain veneers, Lumineers® are made to measure to fit the mouth of each person. They are ultra-thin (about 0.2 mm thick) and very translucent. This translucency promotes an imitation of the natural appearance of the enamel. Very durable, they have a lifespan of up to 20 years.
The procedure
The Lumineers® veneer procedure requires only two visits to the dentist, and about one hour for placement. It does not require the use of needles or local anesthesia and, after treatment, you should not feel discomfort or pain where the veneers have been placed.
Contraindications
You will need to consult your dentist to determine if you are a suitable candidate for Lumineers® veneers. We do not advise them in the following cases:
- if your teeth are stained or discolored, because the ultra-thin layer of Lumineers® can show the color of your natural teeth;
- if your jaws are not positioned properly or if you squeeze or grind your teeth, because constant pressure can cause fracture of the Lumineers veneers.
