Why are routine visits so important?

  • October 8, 2018
  • Admin

At the Dents Mon Quartier dental clinic, we offer the full range of general and preventive dental care to help you maintain a healthy smile and get the care you need if a problem is diagnosed. Of course, routine visits are the focus of these preventive services and that is why we advise our patients to visit us once every 6 months.

But why is it so important to visit your dentist as regularly? Are these visits relevant if you do not detect any abnormal signs or symptoms? To find answers to these questions, we invite you to read on!

More than a cleaning examination

Routine visits are an opportunity for your dental hygienist to thoroughly clean your teeth and mouth. With its specialized tools, your hygienist can remove all plaque and bacteria in places that are difficult to access when brushing daily and flossing at home. When not eliminated, bacteria and plaque can cause tooth decay or the onset of gum disease.

Nevertheless, it would be completely wrong to think that the complete cleaning of the dentition is the only goal behind the routine visits. Here are the other uses of these appointments that must not be neglected ...

Scaling of teeth

When plaque is not completely removed daily, it hardens and turns into a substance called tartar. Tartar can only be removed using the specialized tools that your dental team uses. If it remains on the dentition, tartar can give the latter a more yellowish appearance, while being able to cause problems such as gum disease.

Thus, routine visits are also used to eliminate all traces of scale on your teeth.

Oral disease screening

One might think that the absence of anomalous signs and symptoms necessarily means that there are no problems with the teeth and the mouth. However, this is far from being the case ... Indeed, many oral problems are asymptomatic in their early stages, that is, they will go unnoticed in your eyes. Thanks to their training, expertise and the different technologies they use, dentists are the only person who can detect the presence of such problems at an embryonic stage. They can then make a diagnosis and refer you to appropriate care before the problem gets worse.

Dental caries and gum disease are usually asymptomatic in their early stages. This is also the case with oral cancer, a serious disease that can evolve stealthy. Routine visits are therefore essential for the detection of these problems! Remember that such a problem will be easier to deal with in its early stages, which may result in much lower treatment costs.

The advice of your dental team

Finally, routine visits allow your dentist and hygienist to check whether your hygiene habits are adequate. They can then offer you personalized advice according to your condition, always with the aim of promoting the health of your smile. Do not neglect the opportunity to get their precious advice and your oral health will benefit!

For your routine visits, trust the team of Dents Mon Quartier, your dentists in LaSalle. Thanks to a caring team and the use of advanced technologies, we will take good care of your teeth and your mouth, so you can display a radiant and healthy smile!
