Crowns

It is quite common to repair a broken tooth by placing a crown. Dental crowns are "caps" adapted to the shape of the tooth to adjust to it to cover it completely. Crowns reproduce the shape, color, function and appearance of a natural tooth.

Dental crowns can be made of porcelain on a metallic base, porcelain only or metal (gold) bases, when aesthetics is not considered.

Dents Mon Quartier is equipped with Cerec technology (link to Cerec), which allows your dentist to design, fabricate and set your crown the same day, saving you precious time! This is the procedure that is most commonly used in our clinic to manufacture crowns.

The advantages of a dental crown

  • allows to improve the appearance of your damaged or decayed teeth;
  • allows to mask discoloured teeth;
  • can be used to attach a dental bridge;
  • allows to protect a cracked or weakened tooth;
  • can be used to cover a dental implant;
  • allows to restore a tooth to it’s natural shape and size.

Why should I get a crown?

There are many reasons why your dentist can propose to treat your teeth using dental crowns, such as:

  • your teeth are weakened (for example, due to cavities);
  • your teeth have been worn down or are broken;
  • your tooth needs to be repaired with a big filling;
  • your teeth are malformed or discoloured;
  • your tooth was treated with a root canal and is covered by a big filling.

The placement of a dental crown

  • Before the procedure, your dentist will take an x-ray to ensure that the dental root, bone and gums around your teeth are healthy enough to receive a dental crown.
  • Using local anesthesia, your dentist will make sure you are numb to maximize your comfort during the procedure.
  • Your tooth will then be shaped to receive the new, aesthetic crown.
  • An impression will be taken and sent to a laboratory where your dental crown will be made. This step is done digitally: the impressions are then sent to a laboratory or to the milling machine in the cases where your crown is made the same day with Cerec technology!
  • Meanwhile, a temporary, natural-looking dental crown will be placed on your prepared tooth (when the crown is made in a laboratory).
  • If your crown is manufactured in a laboratory, you will come back two to three weeks later so that the dental crown is adjusted and cemented in place.
  • Smile: your crown will look and function like a natural tooth!
